The Cathedral of the Incarnation has launched a capital campaign called Open Doors Open Hearts. Dean Rob Boulter, speaking on behalf of the Cathedral Chapter, said at the launch event in October 2019 that “this is a transformational project for the Cathedral and the diocese and we feel this initiative will inform and inspire our church for years to come.”

Twenty years ago the Cathedral community undertook a significant project that enhanced our facilities and made a statement about who we are and our mission to the city around us. We built the Gardner Peace Chapel. Today we are able to consider a new undertaking. Our congregation is growing. Our appeal to young families is strong. Our community cares: for each other, for immigrants and refugees, for our city, and for the environment. As new energy is emerging we are asking ourselves, what kind of church do we aspire to be? How do we grow and where are we headed? What is God calling us to become?

We have repairs we need to make to our building but we also want to become more outward facing and focused. We want to expand our impact in the city and beyond by sharing the progressive Christian message of God’s love for all people. We hope to build a spiritual pathway through the property so we can become a destination for spiritual reflection and education about the environment. We are embarking on an ambitious project and with broad support we can Open Doors and Open Hearts.

To date the cathedral congregation has pledged more than $500,000 to support this initiative. Now cathedral leadership, along with Bishop Sutton and Bishop Ihloff, are asking for support from the rest of the diocese. Aspects of this project will transform the cathedral grounds and diocesan center into a destination spot for parish retreats. Plans for the green space to the north of the building include a labyrinth and spiritual walkway with garden rooms and places for meditation and education about the environment. CHECK OUT THE PROJECTS

At the 2019 February leadership retreat, the Chapter and other Cathedral leaders discussed our aspiration to grow in size and mission. We identified four broad areas that we want to focus on in the years ahead.

  • Getting more engaged with Baltimore and the Diocese
  • Open up our Building and our Green Space
  • Be proactive in the maintenance of our building and grounds
  • Do more long-term planning for our spaces and ministries

Please download and view the brochure below which goes into further detail what we hope to accomplish given the funds we can raise.
