FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 15, 2023

[Baltimore, MD] – The Sutton Scholars® High School Enrichment Program and The BIT Center are pleased to announce their upcoming partnership on the historic property of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Waverly, Baltimore. This groundbreaking collaboration aims to transform a church property of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland into a vibrant hub of learning, creativity, and community engagement. A press conference is scheduled for November 21, 2023 at the site to detail the plans.

Sutton Scholars, a program of the Diocese of Maryland, and BIT will share the parish hall at St. John’s, which will be renovated to accommodate the needs of both programs. It will also provide space for entrepreneurial efforts and collaborations, such as BIT’s Bmore Pasta. Addressing food insecurity that inhibits opportunity is important to both programs.

Sutton Scholars supports Baltimore City high school students in becoming confident, competent and capable contributors to their communities by equipping them with the life skills that are essential for academic, workplace, and personal success. The BIT Center supports an equitable prosperous Baltimore by building health and wealth for its citizens through multiple programs. Inspired by their Italian culture (BIT stands for B-MORE ITALIAN), BIT works to create jobs for young adults, to support families in their nutrition education journey and, to increase community access to affordable quality food, the “fuel” to help young Baltimoreans be at their best.

The partnership will be announced officially during a press conference in the presence of public officials, community leaders, and representatives from both Sutton Scholars and the BIT Center. Sutton Scholars and the BIT Center invite members of the media, local residents, community organizations, and public officials to attend this significant event and to join in the celebration of this transformative partnership.
