Dear Siblings in Christ in the Diocese of Maryland,
The season of Advent is upon us, as we’ve entered together – as the church – into a time of hope-filled anticipation and preparation.
Last week, I shared the good news that two new canons will join our diocesan staff on January 15: the Rev. Randy Callender, as Canon for Mission, and the Rev. Dina van Klaveren, as Canon for Development and Stewardship.
Today, I am happy to announce that the Rev. Kristin Krantz will also join our staff on January 15, as Canon for Transitions. In this role, Kristin+ will work closely with both the clergy and laity in supporting congregations as they navigate the complexity of leadership change.
Kristin+ has served as rector of St. James’, Mt. Airy since 2015 and been an active part of diocesan leadership in many endeavors. These include spearheading the launch of The College for Congregational Development in the Diocese of Maryland and currently serving as its director, serving on the Standing Committee, and serving as a seminarian field education mentor and Discerning Ordained Vocation (DOV) mentor.
Kristin+ also serves as a consultant in the Diocese of Maryland leading vestry and leadership retreats, facilitating mutual ministry reflections, and serving on the Congregational Vitality Committee. You can read more about Kristin’s+ ministry with the people of St. James’ in her announcement letter to them here.
I am grateful that Kristin’s+ discernment has led her to say yes to this call, and I believe that she will bring incredible gifts to this ministry as the Canon for Transitions. Please join me in welcoming Kristin+ into this leadership opportunity, as we all seek to prepare ourselves this Advent for the new and powerful things that God is doing in our midst.
Sincerely,
The Rt. Rev. Carrie Schofield-Broadbent
Bishop Coadjutor of Maryland
