Does your congregation know why the Church has deacons? Do they understand how deacons point the Church outward to address the needs of the world? Would you like to explore ways to increase the depth and breadth of your church’s mission and ministry in the world?
We’re excited to announce the launch of a new initiative called DEEP—the Deacon Engagement and Evangelism Program—to help answer those questions. Designed especially for congregations that have no deacon assigned, DEEP aims broadly to:
- Enhance people’s understanding of justice-oriented servant ministry
- Inspire people to more fully live out their baptismal promises
- Engage people in discerning their own calls to mission and ministry in the world
DEEP will send a deacon to your church for a Sunday visit, to serve during worship, preach, teach, and be in conversation with your community. Visits began in January, 2025; for more information or to schedule a visit, ask your rector or senior warden to contact Archdeacon Denise Schiavone, archdeacon@episcopalmaryland.org.
