TELLING THE STORY OF OUR DIOCESE
Community is not scarce. Our Youth need it, and so do we.
Youth need a place to feel loved and accepted without having to work hard to prove themselves worthy. Young adults need help in figuring out who they are and where they belong. All of these things are what made me a believer as a young person, and they are why I take my rowdy kids to church.
A Statement from our bishops on the violence in the Holy Land
we urge you to reach out to neighbors who have family and friends in Israel and Palestine. We are also committed to reaching out and strengthening our interfaith relationships, both here in Maryland and beyond. Ask after people your neighbors care about, offer to pray for them by name, and listen compassionately to their concerns—all of these are things that good and faithful friends do.
Meet the Artists: Behind elements of beauty at Bishop Carrie’s consecration
The wood in those trees was strong and clear and up to a great many tasks. I made a table for my shop out of this wood that I disassembled because I no longer needed it. When Carrie asked me to make her a crozier, it was the obvious choice. I am grateful that the last task of this particular wood is to be a symbol of grace and kindness. It is fitting that it be a reminder of the deep and lasting need for us to shepherd ourselves, each other, and this planet to safety.

Take Action on environmental bills today; help them pass in the Senate
TAKE ACTION! Along with our partner the Maryland Campaign for Environmental Human Rights, we urge you to support three important bills that must pass in the Senate during this General Assembly session in order to make Maryland as a safer place for all of God’s people to live. In the Diocese of Maryland we believe, “Every person, as a matter of basic human dignity, has a fundamental and inalienable right to a healthful and stable environment.” We are in the final stretches of the legislative session and there is positive momentum for several priority bills that align with our values of protecting environmental health on behalf of current and future generations.

Celebrating the Raising of the Claggett Barn
Special guests, elected officials, and the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening of the Delaplaine Barn with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The new meeting, gathering, and dining spaces can accommodate multiple groups or large groups on campus at the same time. Claggett Co-Executive Directors Lisa Marie and James Ryder have led the Board of Directors on a journey to preserve the historic nature of the most iconic building on campus.
Bishop Sutton’s notes on the Eucharist – All are welcome and invited!
This week Bishop Sutton addressed the clergy and wardens of our diocese on best suggested practices for the Eucharist, including instructions not to intinct, if possible. For decades, studies have shown that the common cup is not a significant source of disease transmission. They have also shown that putting one’s fingers in the cup transmits significantly more germs into the chalice. Our churches and those across The Episcopal Church each have specific practices around the Eucharist that are unique to each community.
Campus Ministry: an Interview with the Rev. Dr. Katrina Grusell
Food plays as much a key role in this ministry as prayer and conversation: Often, staff will direct students who are food insecure to attend campus ministry’s weekly meetings for the meal, regardless of their faith background. Katrina and the college students are happy to have them.
